The Noble Battle Against The Hazardous Caramel Coloring In Soda

As more people around the world are getting addicted to the different brands of drinking soda, more organizations and concerned citizens are making their move to regulate the production of these sweet beverages that they think are not good for the health of their kids. In case you are one of the parents who are extremely worried over the health of your children because you cannot stop them from drinking these sweet drinks, then you will be elated to know that a group wants FDA to ban caramel coloring in sodas.

Two of the leading brands of soft drinks, Pepsi and Coke, are known to be using caramel coloring in their products. Because of this fact, the concerned consumer advocacy of the Center for Science in the Public Interest is urging these giant companies to stop from using these substances, which have been proven by various tests that they can cause serious illnesses such as diabetes and cancer.  The group has even written a letter addressed for U.S FDA expressing their concerns over the use of the caramel coloring in the brands of soft drinks cited here.

According to the findings of the tests that have been performed in various brands of drinking soda, each contains 4-methylimidazole or 4-MI, which is one of the triggering factors of a lifetime risk of having cancer.

The 4-MI is formed from the combination of sugar and ammonia that creates the caramel coloring, which give the soft drinks the brown color that entice many people to drink it. Unfortunately, behind this delicious color, problems in the lungs and the liver may happen.

Once the move to ban this caramel coloring is implemented, parents around the world will have that peace of mind that the health of their kids will not be compromised by these sweet drinks.
